I just got done taking that test. I probably could have studied more, but then again, there's always room for more studying. Anyway, the point of this blog is that the entire time I was writing my answers to the 16 questions (heaven forbid!), all I could think was, "This hurts my hand! Why couldn't this be over email?"
So, what I am proposing or rather, just pondering is that I have become unconsciously dependent on CMC, not to mention lazy. My hand hurt from writing so much. It is rather obvious then that I am used to typing and much more fond of it. I mean, the computer never made my right hand burn from typing furiously, but my pencil on the other hand? We're not friends.
What else in my life is becoming dependent on CMC? I used to not like the idea of online classes because I thought it took away from the personality and experience of the class that you get when you walk into a classroom. How much more personality and experience can you get from a test? Am I hypocritical or am I just changing my ways?

Jamie, I feel the same way. Not only was I thinking my hand hurts, but I was also thinking wow did I spell that word right? In fact as I’m typing this post I am first writing it in Microsoft word just so I don’t have any spelling errors. I have become so dependent on the use of computers and what they can do. Heaven forbid I actually pull out a dictionary to look how to spell something! Typing is just so much faster than writing. It seems as if today, our society is not only caught up with technology but also with the speed in which technology allows us to get things done. We are always in a rush to get things done. Well at least I know my life always seems to be put on a speed of ‘fast pace’. I don’t consider myself to be a technological guru, but this class has really opened my eyes to how much I depend on technology and CMC.
Jamie I was thinking the exact same thing as we took that test. I was half way through the 2nd question and was already shaking my hand out...I knew I was in for it since I had 14 more to go! I actually thought to myself, "Wow you haven't written with a pencil much in a long time". Haha I agree I would much rather type something out any day. First of all its much faster, the spelling is checked for you and your hand doesn't hurt (at least it shouldn't!) What would we have done in the days before computers? Our hands would be quite strong!
I feel the same way, too! My hand cramped sooo much during the test. I have never erased so much. Also, I feel that when typing, you can ramble on until you get going and then you can cut out what you don't want in there any more. I feel that typing the answers to the test would be a much more effective way to take the tests in the future.
I had the exact same problem! my hand was burning so bad from that test that i had to stop midway and give myself a little hand massage! It was pretty funny to realize that i don't write that much that writing 16 answers made my hand hurt.
